NMDC to supply iron ore to proposed steel plant in Kadapa district

The Andhra Pradesh Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday with the state-run iron ore miner NMDC Ltd for the supply of iron ore to the proposed steel plant in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh for which the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be laying the foundation stone later this month.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy by Alok Kumar Mehta, Director (commercial), NMDC and P Madhusudhan, the CMD of AP High Grade Steels Ltd on behalf of the State Government.

Kadapa steel plant would come up between Sunnapuralla pally and Pedha Nandaluru villages in Jammalamadugu Mandal of the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister had earlier said that it would be completed expeditiously and production would begin in three years.

According to NMDC, the Indian Bureau of Mines(IBM), ministry of mines, Government of India has given approval for its mining plan to increase the iron ore production from the present capacity of 7 million tonnes per annum to 10 million tonnes per annum for the years 2020-21 and 2021-22. The approval for increasing production from Kumaraswamy mines is a big boost to the company. The miner operates three iron ore complexes across the country with two of these being in the Dantewada district of Chattisgarh and the other being in Bellary district of Karnataka.
