JSPL gets 2,308-tonne head hardened rails order from Kolkata Metro

The private steelmaker, Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) has bagged an order of 2308 tonnes of head hardened rails from Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation. The head hardened steels are special steels which are used for metro rail projects and high-speed freight corridors. These are manufactured by using head hardening technology so that it can bear about 50 percent more pressure as compared to the normal rails.

JSPL, a part of O P Jindal Group is the only plant in India to manufacture head hardened rails at its rail mill at Raigarh. The mill has the capacity to produce more than 30,000 tonnes of head hardened rails.

JSPL Managing Director Mr. VR Sharma said “We have got an order of 2:308 tonne head hardened rails of 1080 HH grade from KMRC. The Research Designs and Standards Organisation has also given its approval for manufacturing and supply of 60E1 grade and 1080 HH grade head hardened rail.”Without disclosing the total deal value, Mr. Sharma said the order will be supplied once the situation stabilizes post lockdown.

He added “The market is down in India, the demand for steel has been affected. We had taken orders from outside India and we are supplying these orders to countries like Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Europe. Our production levels are also maintained,”.
