According to Baowu’s website, Baowu Steel Group produced 96 million mt of crude steel in 2019. The state owned company could surpass Arcelor Mittal to become the World’s largest steelmaker in 2019. ArcelorMittal had cut down its output in response to weak demand in European markets. The World steel giant had produced 92.5 million mt of crude steel in 2018.
Baowu’s production came from its subsidiaries Baosteel Group; Wuhan Steel Group, Maanshan Iron & Steel Group, and Chongqing Iron & Steel and currently has crude steel capacity of around 98.5 million mt/year.
Baowu, consisting of just Baosteel and Wugang, produced 67.43 million mt of crude steel In 2018. But Baowu acquired Maanshan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. which helped them to increase its output.
