Mr Roland Junck to take charge of Liberty Steel’s European operations

As per the Sky News reports, Mr. Roland Junck will head Liberty Steel’s European operations. The former ArcelorMittal executive Mr. Junck, who chaired British Steel until shortly before its recent takeover by China's Jingye Group, is being parachuted into Liberty Steel Group, the manufacturing group owned by Sanjeev Gupta.

INMF demands 50lakh insurance for coal workers

INTUC-affiliated body Indian National Mineworkers’ Federation (INMF) has put forth a demand before the that all workers irrespective of activities they are involved in, should have an insurance cover of INR 50 lakh in case of death due to Covid-19. Pramod Agrawal, INMF chairman in a letter to Coal India Limited (CIL) said All coal workers who are deployed for any activities including production, washing, transportation…during lockdown period and even thereafter till Covid-19 pandemic ceases, be insured for a minimum of INR 50 lakh against unfortunate death out of coronavirus.”

JSPL crude steel production grows 12% to 8.17 MT in FY20

Coal India Ltd production falls by 0.8 percent for FY20.

The state-owned coal miner, Coal India Limited (CIL) had produced 602.14 million tonnes in FY20 registering degrowth of 0.8 percent. The company had produced 606.89 million tonnes for the same period last year. The company missed the target of 660 million tonnes by 9 percent despite registering all-time high production of 84.36 million tonnes in the month of March 2020, up by 6.5 percent YOY.

Challenging times ahead for the domestic steel industry says Icra

Icra said in its latest report that the performance of the domestic steelmakers is likely to be adversely impacted in Q1 of FY21 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide 21 days lockdown. Domestic firms may face challenges due to weak domestic demand and this is likely to lead to inventory pile up which will exert pressure on the steel prices.
