Tata Steel plans to exit South East Asia Business

Tata Steel is moving ahead with a plan to sign a deal for the sale of its units in Thailand and are hoping to close the transaction in a month or two. It has also received interest from multiple players for the sale of its Singapore units.

Allotment of one coal mine each to NMDC and RINL

The Ministry of coal on Saturday has allocated one mine each to National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL). It also said that the mines, which are located in Jharkhand, will boost coking coal production and reduce the dependence of the steel industry on imported coal. The ministry said that this is a significant step towards reducing the dependence of the steel industry on imported coal.

Indian Steel makers apprehensive about the RCEP deal

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is trade agreement (FTA) between ten members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) {Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam}and its six FTA Partners(China, India, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand),where they agree to partially reduce or completely eliminate trade barriers related to imports and exports.

Rinsing of Steels

Purging is carried out in ladle by the injection of inert gas mostly Argon which facilitates rinsing of liquid steel. Argon (Ar) gas is preferred for rinsing owing to its inert nature apart from its low solubility in steel. The gas moves from the bottom of the ladle to the top slag and expands due to heating and decrease of the ferro-static pressure during its course of ascend.

ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel combine plans initial investment of ₹8,000 crore

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India aims to make the newly acquired Essar Steel the finest steel manufacturer in India, with an initial investment of Rs. 8,000 crore. Earlier this week, the ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel combine paid Rs. 42,000 crores to clear the Essar Steel loan default of Rs. 49,000 crores and acquired the company through a two-year-long, insolvency-driven process.

China 2019 crude steel output up by 8.3%

As per the data shown by the National Bureau of Statistics China’s crude steel production in 2019 has surged 8.3 percent to 996.34 million tonnes from the previous year. In December 2019 the world’s largest steelmaker has churned 84.27 million tonnes, registering a growth of 12 percent YoY. China’s pig iron production in December went up 6.0 percent from a year earlier to 67.06 million tonnes, while pig iron production for the whole year was up 5.3 percent from a year earlier to 809.37 tonnes.
