Steel industry employs 6.1 million people. It supports and facilitates a total of 96 million jobs globally. Therefore steel industries around the world have catered to the needs of the people by acting as the source for employment.

Steel industries had been responsible for direct employment but at the same time, millions of people employed in supplier and end-user industries are indirectly benefitted from it.

Steel industry accounts for more than 6 percent of the total global CO2 emissions. It emits around 2 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of steel produced.

Steel is 100% recyclable as it can be reprocessed into the same material of the same quality again and again which can enable us to achieve a sustainable future.

Steel is an interstitial alloy of iron and carbon in which the percentage of C is less than 2% .

The demerger process of NMDC’s Nagarnar Plant in Chhattisgarh into a separate entity is expected to be completed by August-September 2021.

Indian Steel major JSW steel achieved crude steel production of 4.19 MT in Q4 of FY21 registering a growth of 6% YoY and 2% QoQ. The company had produced 3.97 MT in Q4 FY20. Production of Flat rolled products also increased 4% to 2.99 MT in Q4 FY21 as against 2.87 MT produced in Q4 FY20

Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) reported highest ever production and sales in FY 21 of 7.51 million tonne up 19% YoY and 7.28 million tonne up 20% YoY respectively. Exports accounted for 35% of sales in 2020-21 compared to 13% in 2019-20.
