Liquid Steel Spills at SMS-2 of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant

An accident took place on Thursday at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, the corporate entity of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, after molten metal spilled on the ground at the plant’s Steel Melting Shop- 2 near the RH degasser area. A ladle carrying metal weighing about 150 tons slipped in the Ladle Furnace bay behind CCM-3 of SMS-2. The accident took place because of the development of technical slag in the main hoist of the crane.

Fortunately, no casualties nor major damage to equipment or machinery took place.
